TREATMENT OF RESISTANT EDEMA IN PATIENTS WITH HEART FAILURE

Objective of the work was determination of effective treatment regimens for patients with heart failure (HF) of NYHA III–IV and resistant edema (RE). 48 patients have been randomized into 2 groups.

Results of treatment was insignificant improvement of edema status in 20 (83.3%) patients of the 1st group, no response in 4 (16.7%) patients. In the 2nd group significant improvement of edema status in 10 (79.2%) patients and edema complete disappearance in 5 (20.8%) patients.

The results of the study edema demonstrate the efficacy of the treatment scheme consisting of furosemide plus euphylline infusion and spironolactone. This kind of treatment provides the better results in patients with heart failure NYHA III–IV and RE.
