The peculiarities of the involution crisis by an example from the world literature (Thomas Mann’s novel “Buddenbrooks”) are shown in the article. There were considered common defensive mechanisms and dope strategies. The attempt was made to explore the causes of the non-adaptive and malignant course of the hero’s involution crises.
