М. S. Vorontsov was outstanding Russian military chief and statesman of ХIХ century, prince, General-Field-Mars hal. Since 1823 he was the Novorossiysk and Bessarabian general-governor, since 1844 — viceroy and military commander-in-Chief on Caucasus. He was buried in the Odessa Spaso-Preobrazhenskiy Cathedral in 1856, where Ye. K. Vorontsova was buried in 1880 — a holder of the Order of Saint Grate Martyr Anna. Their ashes were buried at the Slobodskoy cemetery of Odessa after destruction of the Cathedral in 1934. Their ashes were reburied in the newly built Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral after exhumation and expertises in November, 2005.
