SPINE TRAUMATISM IN QUALIFIED ATHLETES: NEW METHODS OF DIAGNOSIS

The functional state of the neuromuscular system of athletes performing in freestyle and diving was tested with use of stimulation electromyography.

It was found that 25–38% of tested athletes (to a greater extent in women) have deviations in the electromyographic parameters from the established standard that could serve as an earliest diagnostic sign of spinal nerve S1 roots compression. This can be explained by the fact that the professional activities of tested athletes is associated with permanent exercise stress of the lumbar spine. In order to prevent further development of the detected disorders in the neuromuscular system of athletes the set of exercises was recommended aiming at strengthening and stretching the muscles of the back, straight and oblique abdominal muscles.
